Welcome to the official website of Alejandra Amarilla, mother, philanthropist and filmmaker. If you’re not already familiar with Alejandra’s work, you will be before long. Her inspired film projects and social awareness campaigns have been covered by major media empires including Time, Oprah Magazine, The Huffington Post, the BBC, and CNN. The Landfillharmonic, her cinematic passion project, is soon set to make its debut and change the way you look at poverty, sustainability and the human spirit.

Alejandra Amarilla – A Life and a Mission

Alejandra Amarilla was born in Asuncion, Paraguay, but she spent much of her youth traveling to different countries with her family and exploring diverse cultures. Her father worked for the United Nations, and so Alejandra was exposed to a vast and complex world at a very young age, with all of its riches, happiness, poverty, and suffering. These experiences would ultimately shape her life’s work, instilling within her a passion to speak up for those who are struggling, and for the women and children who so often don’t have a voice.

Through it all, Alejandra has maintained a special place in her heart for the people of her native Paraguay. The Landfillharmonic, the documentary film which she founded and executive produced, tells the remarkable story of The Recycled Orchestra, an unlikely children’s orchestra from the impoverished slum of Cateura, Paraguay. Unable to afford professional instrumentation, the orchestra uses garbage to fashion beautiful instruments of their very own. The orchestra now tours the world, inspiring millions, and The Landfillharmonic is their story.

As Alejandra once told Arizona Foothills Magazine, “My biggest desire is to shine light over the children of Paraguay. This film will show how something as simple as a musical instrument made out of used cans can affect and transform lives.” Visit http://www.landfillharmonicmovie.com/ to learn more about this incredible film, and become a part of the movement for change.

Beyond the Landfill

In addition to her tireless efforts with The Landfillharmonic, Alejandra has worked with a wealth of charitable causes and organizations which seek to better the circumstances of people all across the world, from all walks of life. These organizations include Athletes for Africa, Women’s Global Empowerment Fund, Free Arts of AZ, Sounds of the Earth, and the Creative Visions Foundation.

Today, Alejandra Amarilla makes her home in Los Angeles, where she lives with her three beautiful children. When she’s not raising awareness about important causes or making documentary films, she enjoys traveling with her family, in the hopes that her children might benefit from the same worldly perspective that she was blessed with as a child.
